Kyle, Karen and I got out for an energizing 11-mile trail run this past Saturday. I had twisted my ankle earlier in the week and hadn’t done a longer run in a couple of weeks, so I was a little curious to see how it would respond to the outing. I’m happy to report that all went well. The legs felt fresh and lively and the temps were well into the 60s! It felt great to run in a tank top and I wished I would have worn shorts, too. I would venture to say that I was most likely tapered. At any rate, I felt like I could have kept on running when we finished. Kyle and Karen are training for a 25k trail race in about a month; and I’m just happy to go along for the training runs. It’s nice to have great company on these longer runs. My feet have been feeling better too and I hope they continue to progressively feel better as the days go. I can’t ask for anything more at this point, so I’m just going with the flow and not pushing things.
On Sunday, Amanda headed my way and we did a nice leg-burning 5 miles in the Piedmont woods. The SHT in that section of Duluth is fun and offers a lot of climbing. It was a nice slower, recovery type run—sprinkled with some fast hiking, mud and sunshine. Later on in the day, I spent about three hours solo hiking in one of my favorite spots and looking for agates. I came out with a few doozies and was happy to savor the day in solitude. It was very peaceful and quiet in the woods. There were a lot of fresh wolf tracks in the area, but caught no glimpse of anything other than one grey squirrel and a wild turkey that spooked me!
Wednesday this week brings more adventure…San Diego with Travis! A long weekend away filled with sunshine, laughing, camping, mtn biking and hiking is sure to be awesome. Especially with this guy.
